Activity 1: Create a reflective journal

Kia Ora, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei and Hello,

My name is Emma Percy and welcome to my digital learning blog! On this blog you will find my personal reflections about my teaching and learning practices.

I am currently teaching 27 enthusiastic Year 4 & 5 students at May Road School, in Auckland. This year is the first year where all students in my class have chromebooks to use as a tool to support their learning. This is not only new for them, but also new for me as I have never taught a digital class!

So far, my experience of teaching in a digital class has been a roller coaster ride! There have been times of frustration, but it's been exciting to see the improvements in students' learning and their passion for learning extend beyond the physical walls of the classroom (not to mention the learning that I have done along the way!).

To me, education is an important foundation in learning and developing lifelong skills - both academically and socially. I aim to create a positive and motivating environment in order to instil a love of learning within my students. This also means sharing my learning experiences with my students so they can see that learning is an ongoing process, regardless of how old you are! At the start of this year, I shared with my class that I hope to learn lots with them throughout the year. I created this teacher introduction (with the help of powtoon) to share with them.

I am always wanting to find ways of improving my teaching in order to maximise my students' learning. I enjoy reading other educator's blogs and using social media as a way of doing this. There are so many great things happening in classrooms all over the world and technology has allowed for this expert knowledge to become more accessible.

Through this blog I hope to share my learning, experiences and reflections with a global audience.
